My First Travel Mistake.
I hadn't even left yet. It was the night before. I decided to visit my online banking quickly to make sure everything was in order and all of my automatic withdrawals were set up while I was away. That's when I notice a charge on my Visa. A charge of $162 from a hostel in Greece. "Why are they charging me!? I haven't even stayed there yet! I put a deposit down, that is all!" are the thoughts racing through my mind. I go online to Hostelworld, where I check my booking information. At that time, I see a notice saying that my failure to show up for my reservation resulted in a penalty charge. "EXCUSE ME!?" Now I am hot and rage-y, I am ready to fire off a very rude e-mail telling them they are a month early, but that's when I see it. I had somehow managed to book the 7th month instead of the 8th. CURSE YOU MATH! I have always been terrible with numbers, and now it cost me $160. Anyway, as per usual, I found my silver lining and was able to re-book hostels in a different way that allows me more flexibility and a couple extra days island hopping instead of in Athens, like a mulligan of sorts. This time however, I was very careful to select the correct month.
