On the third night, I joined in an organized game of capture the flag. It was put on by our walking guide, in the famous area Plakas. When we were told about the game, there were two times. If you are a tourist he said, come at 7:15, if you are Greek, come at 6:30. I thought this was a joke, but was later told that the Greeks are usually 30 minutes to an hour late for everything... The Greeks showed up around 7:30.
When you go to a restaurant, you are seated quickly, no waiting in a lobby for a table to be free. However, once you are seated you can wait upwards of 20 minutes to be served and then another hour before you get your bill, and often you have to ask for it.
When I was taking busses, they would say to arrive 10 minutes early so you don't miss the bus, but at the same time, the bus was always 10 or 15 minutes late.
I got a ferry to Heraklion, Crete from Santorini. The ferry company said to arrive an hour early, I was 2 hours early to ensure nothing went wrong, that buffer time when traveling puts my mind at ease. My ferry did not board until the departure time and arrived at our destination over an hour late, causing me to miss the last bus to my accommodations. I ended up at a super sketchy hostel, and caught what was advertised as an "Express Bus", which also arrived 20 minutes later than anticipated. I have gotten used to standing around waiting during the past 2 weeks...
